The AAOI Partners Fund is a focused, long/short (long biased) Spoke Fund that utilizes a research intensive, value-orientated, and often event-driven investment approach. The portfolio’s investment objective is long-term capital appreciation. We have been meaning to integrate the blog into The Motley Fool’s CAPs for a while now, and we are finally up and running. For those of you who are have never heard of CAPs, its essentially a stock picking contest meant to harness the “wisdom of crowds” as well as a tool to more accurately measure a participants Alpha or raw stock picking ability relative to the S&P 500 (i.e., it’s a tool that is meant to help distinguish between the lucky and the good). It also has an impressive community of outstanding value investors who frequently post insightful and high quality analysis, so not only is it fun but it actually is quite a good resource for uncovering low-risk, high-return investment ideas. For a more in depth breakdown of CAPs check out The Motley Fool co-founder David Gardner’s interview which can be found here.

AAOI Original Blog Portfolio
Sadly we decided to kill off the original Blog portfolio due to time constraints and the difficulties associated with attempting to juggle 20 different hats at the same time. From inception in late 2008 (11/22/2008) through its closure on 7/14/2010 the portfolio returned 21.34%, more than doubling the return of the S&P over the equivalent time period.
